Somalia traders boycott Khat from Kenya, Opt for Ethiopia
The diplomatic Standoff between Kenya and Somalia has seen no signs of truce, as Khat traders in Mogadishu boycotted the produce from Kenya, their major supplier for Ethiopia.
The move came a day after Khat suppliers from Kenya said that they would boycott supplying the products to Somalia, the destination for most of its stimulants, if the standoff over the border post was not resolved.
But the Kenyan traders got a ride shock even before they made through their threat, as their planes were turned away from Mogadishu.
The first consignment from Ethiopia arrived in Mogadishu yesterday aboard the National Airways Cargo.
The trade wars are likely to affect the Somalia market more, as they get more supplies from the Kenyan side. Kenya also gets, mainly animals from Somalia.
